Welcome to the Lafferty Racing website!
Many sprint fans at Williams Grove Speedway have seen the black #0 car take the track week after week and wondered "who is that guy"? On this site, you can find out more about Rick Lafferty, a true competitor who loves the sport, all without the benefit of outside sponsorship.

Rick's dedication to racing may not have landed a sponsorship yet, but he was rewarded at the 2001 Williams Grove Awards Banquet. He was the recipient of the "Most Improved 410 Driver" award for his efforts on the track. He was also awarded for placing in the top 20 in both the 410 Driver and Owners Points.

Early Racing
Rick and some of his friends from the area built go karts, attached roll cages with bodies on them, and persuaded their fathers to build them a track. These karts looked very much like small modifieds. Soon, they found that there was a class called Microstocks that were the same as what they had built, except for the wheelbase. Rick was 11 years old when he started out racing at Pinebrook on Sundays.
1991-1993 An organization called Microdirt formed out of the demise of Pinebrook. They had a few races on 12th/mile tracks built in back yards. It was easy to run 30-45MPH on these tracks, which was extremely exciting to Rick. In 1993, the Microdirt Club leased a track that was made from a horse rink outside of a racecourse. Rick raced there the entire season and picked up a championship with 13 wins for the year.

1994 Rick was finally 18 – old enough to race with AMSRA. He traveled around Pennsylvania & New Jersey with them, running on tracks ranging from 5/8-mile asphalt to 1/5-mile asphalt. Rick won another championship with 16 wins. He also raced sportsman & modifieds at New Egypt Speedway on Sundays with his total feature wins at 51.
1997-1998 Rick ran modified microstocks and modified champ karts at
1999-2000 Rick purchased a used sprint car & motor and went to a Donnie Krietz driving school. It was quite a change from a 20HP/400LB car to an 800HP/1200LB sprint car! He ran at Lincoln Speedway first where speed wasn’t much of an issue. The Grove was next, with their long straights. He didn’t qualify the first time out, but his best finish for the year was 10th. Rick also raced at Port Royal Speedway that year. It was definitely a good year for learning. In 2000, Rick ran sprint cars at 20-30 events. His best finish was 11th, with almost all finishes at 15-19th place. He also found time to run a few Microstock races and walked away with a win.
2001 - The Microstock never left the shop. Rick raced the sprint car the entire season, mostly at Williams Grove Speedway. Competition became more intense closer to the front. His best finish was 7th place, and he qualified both WoO2 nights. Most finishes were in the 11-15th spots. Rick started to realize the cost of racing was skyrocketing. He finished 19th in the final points with receiving a special award for Most Improved Driver of the Year at Williams Grove.
2002 – Rick raced sprint cars every week at Williams Grove & Port Royal Speedway. He finished on the average of 8-12th every night with a few top tens and a couple of top fives. During the season, several sponsors came on board. First, it was Beerhill Gang, who were a group of fans in turn 3 at the Grove. TLC Systems, a company who sells and reconditions computers was soon to follow, along with auctioneer Glenn Harry. At the end of the season, Clugston Lumber Company climbed aboard to help Lafferty’s Racing with the equipment he needed to finish in the top ten. He finished 16th at the Grove and 9th at

2003 –
2004 – Rick’s plans for the 2004 season include competing weekly at both Williams Grove and Port Royal Speedway, as well as other selective 410 events. Rick is actively looking for sponsors to help out with the costs involved in racing. He’s learned that top 10 finishes are expensive. So far, he has miraculously done everything on his own with a small number of associate sponsors. Rick's ambition and dream is to make something of himself in a racing career, especially in 410 sprints. With the right number of sponsors, along with luck and support from his fans and family, he believes that he will reach that goal one day.
